Welcome to the Anglo Sikh Virtual Museum

Rare Sikh Coatee on display

W are thrilled to share an incredible glimpse into #SikhHeritageDay at The Commandery, Worcester!
14th June 2025

Drawing visitors from across the UK. The Worcester Museum Service brought out stunning artifacts like the beautifully embroidered Anglo-Sikh Wars jacket and rare medals, maps, and prints from the 29th Regiment—objects usually tucked away in archives. The highlight was a rare Sikh coatee on display which was picked up at the Battle of Ferozeshah (1st Sikh War) by Captain John Mackenzie on the 22nd December 1845.The highly embroidered jacket belonged to a young Sikh recruit.

Guests also immersed themselves in history through the Sikh Museum Initiative interactive virtual reality exhibits and a compelling talk by expert Gurinder Singh Mann on the Anglo-Sikh Wars. Mann broke down the battles between the Sikh Empire with the East India Company considering the causes and the aftermath of the annexation of the Punjab. He also alluded to the Fauj-i-Khas units trained under European Generals. John Paddock from the Mercian Regiment Museum gave his insights on the 29th Regiment and their role in the Sikh Wars.

Feedback has been overwhelming. Many hailed the event as “a deeply moving dive into Sikh bravery and pride,” applauding the opportunity to learn firsthand about these untold stories.
A heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us—and to the volunteers and staff who made it possible.
