Welcome to the Anglo Sikh Virtual Museum

Anglo Sikh Showcase at the Royal Armouries

The Royal Armouries
Leeds
28th and 29th September 2019.

On the 28 and 29 September, the Royal Armouries invited visitors to the court of Maharajah Ranjit Singh, famously known as The Lion of Punjab, in the final event in the museum’s ‘Monarchs’ season.

To support the two-day event the Sikh Museum Initiative had contributed an article for the Royal Armouries describing some key Sikh objects in their collections (this can be read here) toegether with a digital showcase of Anglo Sikh History.

Ranjit Singh ruled between 1792 –1839, establishing a Sikh kingdom whilst defending India against invasion. His reign saw a renaissance of Sikh culture and this weekend took visitors back to the Sikh Empire through storytelling( Rpp Singh), Anglo-Sikh re-enactments, Gatka displays( Bhai Mani Singh ji  Gatka Akhara) and the Sikh Museum Initiative Digital Showcase of the Anglo Sikh Virtual Museum.

Visitors got the chance to see various objects through the digital 3d touchscreens together with the Virtual Reality set up. These objects form part of the recently launched Anglo Sikh Virtual Museum which can be seen at www.anglosikhmuseum.com There was great feedback left by visitors and great engagement with museum staff.

Taran3d developer on the project stated, “The project shows us how children can learn about history through 3d technlogies. The event was animportant showcase to higlight Sikh objects within a great institution like the Royal Armouries”

Gurinder Singh Mann, Head of the SMI stated “There was a degree of engagement from individuals of all walks of life and all ages. The project is going from strength to strength and shows how digital technologies can enhance the whole museum experience. “

The Sikh Museum Initiative would like to thank the Royal Armouries for the inclusion of the Anglo Sikh Virtual Museum setup in the programme.
